How to Make a Bean Bag Chair

Bean bag chairs have been favorites of young people for many years for many reasons – they’re cool to look at, they’re super comfy, and they’re usually not that expensive. If you make your own, you’ll come off even cheaper and get to have some crafting fun. 

Regardless of which pattern you’re going for, or which model you’ll choose from our list, you’ll need a few base materials: 

• a big piece of fabric (even an old bed sheet or blanket will work)
• a zipper (if you want to make a cover that you can remove and wash)
• bean bag filler – you can get EPS beads, EPP beads, micro-beads, compressed foam, beans, rice, shredded memory foam, and so on. 
• needle and thread or a sewing machine, if you won’t choose a pattern that requires no sewing. 

That’s it. Then, you’ll need a pattern, of course, but that’s pretty easy to discern on your own too. Measure out the fabric, cut it up, sew it on three sides and fill it up with whatever filler you chose. Then, sew up the last bit. If you chose to make a separate cover for the bean bag, follow the same pattern you did for the bag and add a zipper on the fourth side instead.
